Explorations Prints and Sculpture by Adrian Spurr and Prints by Joe Monteleone

Bayley Arts is pleased to present Explorations, Prints and Sculptures by Adrian Spurr and Prints by Joe Monteleone. The exhibition honours the friendship and mutual respect these two artists have developed since their encounter in 2021 at Spurr’s print studio in Seaford. The pairing of the two artists celebrates their comradeship, mixed abilities, and personal journeys through the medium of printmaking. 

About Adrian Spurr 

Adrian Spurr is an award-winning sculptor and master printmaker. He is co-founder of Sunshine Print Artspace in West Melbourne and manages his own print studio, Boldface Fine Art, in Seaford. He has enjoyed a rewarding career as Head of Arts and Performing Arts at a Bayside secondary school for 20 years and has been the recipient of prestigious art residencies and public arts grants in Melbourne. Spurr completed extensive studies to become a Master printmaker at Brighton Polytechnic, UK, and the Druckwerkstatt in Berlin. Whilst in Europe he had the opportunity to study under and work alongside, some of Europe’s most celebrated artists such as Bruce MacLean and A.R. Penk. 

Spurr continues to exhibit regularly in Victoria and is engaged in the promotion and curating of other artist’s via the BIG Sculpture St Kilda Biennale which he commenced in 2019 and is currently a member of the Bayside City Council Arts & Gallery Advisory Committee. 

About Joe Monteleone 

Joe Monteleone’s Deafblind identity is central to his art practice and is recognised in Victoria for his achievements as a Deafblind artist and advocate for the Deafblind community. In 2022 he graduated from Box Hill Institute, Melbourne, with a Diploma of Visual Arts, specialising in printmaking, and has since exhibited in various group shows at Castlemaine Art Museum, Gasworks Arts Park, Hawthorn Town Hall, and Linden Art Gallery. In 2022, Monteleone received a grant from the City of Melbourne and was able to achieve his most ambitious work to date; a large-scale print of Melbourne’s iconic landmark Flinders Street Station. The 12-panel linocut print was exhibited in January 2023 at Federation Square attracting wide media attention.  

Monteleone has recently received a significant grant from Creative Victoria to further develop his skills in printmaking which will extend into sculpture.
