A new mural has been completed at Bayley Arts, adding another vibrant artwork to the creative spaces that surround the gallery and studios in Highett.
The project brought together Bayley Artists, students from Brighton Grammar School and artist Noni Drew for a week of painting, learning and collaboration. Across five days, the group worked together to base coat, draw up and paint the mural, transforming another wall along the Bayley Arts driveway into a lasting public artwork.
The mural continues a growing creative partnership between Bayley Arts and Brighton Grammar School. Two years ago, students worked with artist Aileen Ng to create the first mural along the driveway. This year, Brighton Grammar returned to contribute to a second mural, once again supporting a project that celebrates creativity, inclusion and shared artistic practice.
Artist Noni Drew led the creative direction throughout the week, guiding the mural as it developed from design to finished artwork. Michael Hawkins, Head of Art, Years 7 to 12 at Brighton Grammar School, supported the project by helping students and Bayley Artists use a grid system to transfer the design onto the wall.
Despite cold winter weather, the group worked together with focus and care to complete the mural. The project created opportunities for students and Bayley Artists to share ideas, learn from one another and contribute to a meaningful artwork that will be enjoyed by visitors, artists and the wider Bayley Arts community.
The week finished with a musical performance from the Brighton Grammar students in the Bayley Arts gallery, where Bayley Artists also shared the current Steffie Wallace exhibition. A celebration lunch followed, marking the end of a week filled with creativity, teamwork and connection.
The completed mural is now part of the Bayley Arts site, adding colour, energy and another example of what can happen when artists, students and community come together through the arts.
