‘Intimate Expressions’ is the ninth exhibition by this collective of Melbourne artists, who are all highly proficient in their chosen styles. Since forming as a group more than twenty years ago, members have been regularly painting together, both in the studio and en plein air.
Their aim is to create works that are not only appealing and uplifting but also seen as a celebration of the act of painting itself. This new exhibition features fine examples of figurative, impressionist, and abstract paintings ranging across watercolour, acrylics and oils.
“Art is a line around your thoughts.” Gustav Klimt
Echoing Klimt’s insightful words, the exhibition theme reflects the deeply introspective nature of the painting process, and the uniquely personal approach each artist has to working with colour, form, texture, and the ever-changing play of light and shade. Be it a tranquil landscape, striking still life, expressive portrait, or bold abstract composition, viewers are invited to consider the thinking embodied in the works, and to sense the dedication these artists have to exploring the potentials of their favoured medium.
